CNY Job Opening for News Director

 

The Central New York Radio Group currently has an opening for a full-time position of News Director. We are looking for someone with superb communication skills and great work ethics. Must have a passion for journalism, be able to write well, have good news judgment, ability to pursue your own enterprised stories, and enjoy responding to changing and breaking news. High School Wrestling


Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton fell just short of successfully defending its Section Four Class B wrestling champion- ship as Windsor beat the Bears by one point in the 10-team tournament Saturday at Waverly. Oneonta will send 10 wrestlers to the D-II sectional championships as the Yellowjackets got a runner-up finish from Fred Thomas, fourth place finishes from Jacob Vaccaro and Francis Thomas, and seven fifth-place finishes. OHS scored 119 points to finish eighth in the tournament. 
Defending champion Walton finished fourth in the team standings as Greene cruised to the Section Four Class C champion- ship at Lansing with 179 points.
Five-time Midstate Athletic Conference champion Scott Stafford beat Unatego's Austin Ryan in a tournament final for the second straight week as the Sidney senior won the 120-pound crown with a 6-0 decision. Sidney had another champion in Austin Dean as Sidney placed fifth as a team.
Collin Ellis, Cody Lafever and Bryan Ingram won championships and Mike Neumann placed second for Delhi, which finished third with 139.5 points during the Section Four Class D Tournament at Odessa-Montour.
Tioga finished first. Unadilla Valley's Dustin Badger rounded out the local champions. The Storm placed 7th.


College Wrestling

 

The Oneonta State wrestling team won 2-of-3 matches Saturday at Wesleyan University to end its dual-meet schedule for the year.  The Red Dragons defeated both Plymouth State and Williams College but lost to Wesleyan to finish an 9-9 overall.


High School Boys Basketball

 

Cooperstown crushed Sherburne-Earlville 79-58 Saturday.


College Basketball

 

The Oneonta State men's basketball team dropped a pair of road games this weekend at Brockport and Geneseo.  The Red Dragons fell Friday to Brockport 85-62 while coming out on the short end of a 67-57 score Saturday versus Geneseo.

Oneonta State women's basketball completed a weekend sweep in the Rochester area with its 68-61 win Saturday versus Geneseo and an 82-46 rout of Brockport Friday.

Hartwick men’s basketball team beat Elmira 59-52 Saturday afternoon at Lambros Arena. The win gives the Hawks a record of 20-2 and 9-2 in the Empire 8. The win for Hartwick also marks the first time the team has reached 20 wins since the 1991-92 season. Friday the Hawks edged Alfred 64-63.

Hartwick’s women’s basketball team emerged Saturday with a 59-52 win against visiting Elmira.   Friday night Hartwick hammered Alfred 71-41.


Water Polo

 

The #13 Hartwick women's water polo team won its 300th game Saturday by defeating the University of Redlands 14-9. The Hawks are now the second school since the modern era began in 2001 to achieve that feat. The team trails only the University of Michigan which has 316 wins.


College Swimming

 

Hartwick’s swimming teams visited nationally-ranked team Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. The 18th ranked Hartwick men suffered their first loss of the season and finish 16-1 while the women also lost and finish at 14-3.


College Track & Field

 

The Oneonta State track & field squads competed Saturday at the Springfield College Invitational.  The men finished second overall while the women took fourth place in the final team standings.  The Red Dragons Sarah Timmons shattered her own school record in the 20-lbs weight throw event by nearly two meters. The senior also moved from 7th to 1st in Div. III with just over one month out from the National championships.
